Zurich Airport: New SWISS lounges offer greater customer comfort
Coinciding ideally with the inauguration of the new Airside
Center, SWISS’s refurbished lounges in Zurich Airport’s
Terminal 1 have reopened for business. The new-look lounges
offer customers even more comfort, calm and practical working
facilities than before. They also boast, as something of a
centrepiece, probably the longest lounge bar in the airline
world, with a length of 28.6 metres, which offers customers
a fabulous view out over the airport and its bustling operations.
The refurbishment of the SWISS lounges, which took two
months, has seen all the company’s lounge facilities
placed under a single roof. The lounges’ integration
into the new Airside Center offers numerous benefits for
SWISS passengers:
- shorter journeys and transfer times, with Passport Control
nearby and direct access to the Skymetro
- a separate quiet area with three relaxation rooms
- new business areas with various workstations
- an informal bar with bartender service.
The lounges can be used by any SWISS passenger holding
a Swiss First or Swiss Business ticket, any Swiss TravelClub
member with Circle, Gold or Silver status or any VIP passengers.
SWISS expects some 1 800 customers a day to make use of
the newly-refurbished facilities, which offer an excellent
means of resting and relaxing before the departure of their
flight. |

Iberia to offer flights to Cali, Medellin, Cartagena de
Indias and Pereira in Colombia
The airlines Iberia and Avianca have signed a code-sharing
agreement that will take effect on September 20th. The agreement
will allow Iberia passengers from Madrid arriving in Bogota,
Colombia, to make connecting flights on Avianca aircraft
but under Iberias code to the Colombian destinations of
Cali, Medellin, Cartagena and Pereira. Meanwhile, the Colombian
airline will add its code to Iberia flights from Madrid
to Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante and Paris, allowing Avianca
passengers arriving in Madrid to reach these destinations
on Iberia aircraft.
The agreement reflects Iberia's policy of extending its
destination network in Colombia, and Avianca's plans to
broaden its coverage of Europe. It also reflects the increasingly
close relations between the two firms, who recently signed
another agreement calling for Iberia Maintenance to repair
eight engines used to power Avianca's Boeing 757 fleet.
Today Iberia is Spain's leading airline and also market
leader on Europe-Latin America routes. With 2003 revenues
of 4.62 billion euros, net earnings of 146 million euros
and operating earnings of more than 160 million euros, Iberia
is Europe's most profitable scheduled airline. At the same
time it is distinguished by its social, economic, and environmental
policies, which were rewarded in 2004 by Iberia's inclusion
in the Dow Jones Stoxx sustainability index. Iberia's commitment
to the integration of disabled people in the workplace has
made it one of the three companies best perceived for its
social policies in 2003, and number one in employee cooperation
programmes, according to the independent Enterprise and
Society Foundation. Together with its franchise partner
Iberia Regional, Iberia completes about 1,000 flights each
day to about 100 destinations. In 2003 Iberia carried a
total of 29.17 million passengers and 214,000 tonnes of
cargo. It is a member of the oneworld airline alliance along
with Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay
Pacific, Finnair, LAN Chile and Qantas.
Avianca boasts one of Latin America's most modern fleets
of aircraft, consisting of Boeing B-767s, Boeing B-757s,
McDonnell Douglas MD-83s, and Fokker F-50s. It serves 18
destinations within Colombia and another 17 in Europe, the
Americas and the Caribbean. The Colombian airline has earned
international certification for the quality of its procedures
and safety standards in flight, maintenance, personnel training,
and handling operations. |
