Cathay Pacific launches direct service to Moscow
Cathay Pacific Airways launched its first direct service from
Hong Kong to Moscow, the latest addition to the airline's
growing network and further strengthening Hong Kong as a global
aviation hub.
Services between Hong Kong and Moscow are operated under
a code-share agreement with Aeroflot - Russian Airlines
signed in March.
Flight numbers have been designated with both Aeroflot's
"SU" and Cathay Pacific's "CX" prefixes.
Both Aeroflot and Cathay Pacific will market the service
but flights are operated by Aeroflot using a Boeing B767
aircraft. Currently, passengers can choose from six services
a week during this peak summer season.
Passengers who are members of the Asia Miles programme
can earn Asia Miles when they book through Cathay Pacific.
Front-end passengers and members of The Marco Polo Club
will also be able to enjoy the airline's award winning lounges
- The Wing and The Pier - at Hong Kong International Airport
prior to their flight.
Cathay Pacific Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive David
Turnbull said: "We are very happy to work with Aeroflot
to offer this new service to our passengers. Moscow is a
dynamic city and a prime destination for both business and
leisure travellers. With our strong network across Asia
we can offer passengers convenient connections through Hong
Kong direct to the Russian capital and beyond."
Moscow's addition to the Cathay Pacific network reflects
the airline's on-going commitment to further strengthen
Hong Kong as a global aviation hub. From 1 July Cathay Pacific
will be the only carrier to operate a daily non-stop service
from Hong Kong to New York. With the airline's existing
connecting service via Vancouver, Cathay Pacific will also
be the only carrier to fly the Hong Kong - New York route
twice daily.

SWISS elects not to join oneworld
SWISS has decided not to proceed with the envisaged integration
of its Swiss TravelClub frequent flyer programme into the
Executive Club, its counterpart at British Airways, under
the present conditions. The sizeable costs of such an integration
and the drawbacks it would bring currently outweigh its
projected mid- to long-term benefits. As the abandonment
of the proposed integration also means that the bilateral
agreement between SWISS and British Airways cannot be put
into practice, SWISS is unable to join the oneworld alliance
at the present time.
SWISS and British Airways have reached an amicable agreement
on how they now intend to proceed. SWISS’s bilateral
commercial agreements with other oneworld members remain
unaffected by these developments.

South-East Asian Hub Singapore integrated into route network
of Austrian Airlines Group
From 2 June 2026 onwards, the Austrian Airlines Group will
incorporate the south-east Asian financial and economic
centre of Singapore into its long-haul route network. The
Boeing B 777, with its 344 seats (42 Business Class and
302 Economy Class), will take off from Vienna for Singapore
three times a week. The service will also fly on from Singapore
to Melbourne in Australia three times a week.
This new connection means the Austrian Airlines Group will
provide a total of 36 weekly flights in both directions
between Vienna and Australia, passing through Singapore
and Kuala Lumpur en route. Chief Executive Officer Vagn
Soerensen made the following statement on the expansion
of the company’s long-haul programme: “In addition
to the traditional connection from Vienna to Sydney via
Kuala Lumpur, we have now incorporated Singapore into our
programme of services linking continental Europe and Australia.
We are the only airline from continental Europe flying to
Australia, and together with our Star Alliance partners
Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand, we offer a dense
network of services between Europe, South-East Asia, Australia
and – taking our code share connections into account
– to New Zealand. Singapore is not only an excellent
hub but also a very interesting target destination for both
businesspeople and tourists. I’m extremely happy that
our partnership with Singapore Airlines within the Star
Alliance is now developing into this concrete code share
relationship.”
In connection with the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board
Meeting, to be held in Singapore immediately after the maiden
flight, Vagn Soerensen remembers the wide-ranging cooperation
agreements concluded by the Austrian Airlines Group in Asia
and Oceania. Group services to Tokyo and Osaka, for example,
were launched in cooperation with All Nippon Airways, those
to Bangkok together with Thai International Airways and
flights to Beijing and Shanghai with Air China. Code share
flights are operated with Air New Zealand, via Australia,
to the cities of Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
