Continental Airlines Announces Worldwide Fare Increases

Continental Airlines, Inc. announced that it has raised fares worldwide, effective immediately. The carrier also said it is considering additional furloughs, wage and benefit concessions and reduced pension funding.

The fare increase is $10 USD each way for flights up to 1,000 miles, and $20 USD each way for flights over 1,000 miles. The carrier expects that the fare increase will only offset 15 - 20 percent of the economic impact of record fuel prices, which recently hit their highest price since crude oil contracts began trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange 21 years ago.

SWISS also responds to high price of fuel

In response to the steady rise in the price of oil on the world market, SWISS is increasing all fares from Switzerland by three per cent. In markets outside Switzerland the amount of the increase will vary depending on similar measures taken by competing airlines. This measure is effective Thursday, May 20.

Oil market experts see no immediate price relief in sight. The uncertain political situation in the Middle East and increasing demand from China have pushed the world price of oil to its highest level in 13 years.

Various major airlines around the world have already introduced a fare surcharge or are considering a similar step. SWISS will continue to monitor the aviation fuel market carefully. Fuel costs account for approximately 12 per cent of SWISSs total costs. The fuel surcharge on cargo rates was raised from 15 to 20 Eurocents per kilo on May 10.

Air France and KLM introduces a fuel surcharge starting on 19 May 2026

Due to the steep rise in fuel prices, Air France has introduced a fuel surcharge of EUR 3 per flight legs (one round trip consists of two flight legs). This surcharge, paid on all tickets issued as from Wednesday 19 May 2004, will be dropped as soon as the IPE Brent crude price returns to 30 dollars over 30 consecutive days.

KLM: Effective May 19, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is imposing an extra surcharge worldwide of EUR 4 per leg (a one-way journey from Madrid to Tokyo via Amsterdam is two legs). The surcharge applies to all KLM flights worldwide.

NH opens a "Collection" Hotel with "nhube" in the spanish coast town of Cartagena

NH Hoteles has inaugurated NH Cartagena, a hotel with 100 rooms (including 4 junior-suites) divided into six floors. This new establishment, under the direction of Ángel Ramos, is situated at an excellent location in the Plaza Héroes de Cavity, next to the city's Town Hall. From the hotel, the clients have views of the most characteristical features of the city and of one of the most emblematic harbours on the east coast of Spain.

The hotel has supposed a total investment of 15 € millions. The establishment is perfectly equipped to offer the clients maximum comfort and quality. The hotel rooms are fully equipped with features such as: Telephone, cable television with Canal+, Internet connection, air conditioning, mini bar, choice of pillows, breakfast for early risers, video games, room service… The NH Cartagena offers an excellent service, typical of a modern establishment, with restaurant and own parking. Furthermore, the hotel has three function rooms with a capacity to host up to 120 people. The NH Cartagena belongs to the "Collection" category, the most prestigious one in the chain that brings together emblematic or historical buildings.

One of the novelties that NH Cartagena presents is the opening of the NH Hoteles second "nhube". This pioneer concept, created in conjunction with Ferran Adriá (who also acts as an advisor of NH Hoteles) involves a warm decorated space within the hotel sector, which combines gastronomy, leisure and time for rest, all with the final purpose, the benefit of the client. "nhube" is a groundbreaking formula in the hotel sector, which unites the common lounges, bar-cafeteria, and restaurant hotel areas.

"Nhube" is a completely new concept, a home-like space, decorated exclusively to simulate an ambiance of relax: a multi-functional space where guests can socialise, watch TV, surf the web, listen to music, as well as enjoy a drink, dine, or simply relax in a flexible ambiance where space and lighting change according to the time of day. In other words, a place where one feels "better than at home".
