Scandinavian Airlines first with check-in via speech recognition
2.8 million travelers now have the option of checking in on
Scandinavian
Airlines with the help of a mobile phone and a speech recognition
service called Voice Check-in. Scandinavian Airlines thereby
becomes
first in the world to offer customers a reminder by SMS and
then the
possibility to check in via speech recognition.
The traveler subscribes to a "check-in notification"
in her/his profile at scandinavian.net and inserts a mobile
phone number and a SAS EuroBonus or Travel Pass card number
there. About 22 hours prior to departure these travelers
receive an SMS to their mobile phone informing them that
the flight is now open for check-in via speech recognition
or the Internet.
Travelers who call the Voice Check-in service answer a
few simple
questions, such as whether they prefer an aisle or window
seat. In the
dialogue the mobile phone number functions as the key to
the
reservation. When the check-in process is completed confirmation
is sent via SMS to the traveler's mobile phone.
Travelers who prefer to check in via the Internet can choose
a seat on
the site and, when holding a ticket that permits booking
changes, can
also opt to check in for an earlier or later flight if space
is
available.
"By being ready to fly when they arrive at the airport,
travelers avoid
any queues, says Martina Samuelsson, responsible for self-service
on-
ground at Scandinavian Airlines. Our aim is to simplify
travel and give
the customer freedom of choice regarding how and when he/she
wishes to
check in."
After the check-in, travelers with hand baggage only can
go directly to
the gate at the airport. Travelers with checked baggage
are issued with
baggage tags by an SAS Self Service automat.
The language used in the speech recognition service - Danish,
Norwegian,
Swedish or English - is determined by the country code of
the mobile
phone number. The caller can change the Danish, Norwegian
or Swedish
dialogue to English if desired.
Voice Check-in is initially available for all SAS flights
within
Scandinavia/Finland and from Scandinavia to the rest of
Europe. The
service can be used by all travelers with an SAS EuroBonus
card or
Travel Pass when traveling with up to two pieces of baggage
in addition
to hand baggage.

Lufthansa resumes services to Kuala Lumpur in the 2004 summer
timetable
"Selamat Datang - Welcome to Malaysia!" This warm
greeting awaits Lufthansa passengers as of next March. With
the introduction of the summer timetable on 28 March 2004,
Lufthansa will be offering four flights a week to Kuala Lumpur.
The service will be operated by a Boeing 747-400 and include
a stopover in Bangkok.
"The key growth markets of the future are in Asia
- that's where it's all happening. Malaysia is an increasingly
important trading partner for many companies, particularly
in Germany. Thanks to its strategic location, Kuala Lumpur
has become one of the key international trade and business
centres in Asia, which is why we want to offer our passengers
even better connections to the region," says Ralf Teckentrup,
Executive Vice President Network Management, IT & Purchasing,
explaining Lufthansa's decision to resume services to the
Malaysian capital.
The new service to Kuala Lumpur will operate on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. A Boeing 747 with the flight
number LH 782 will take off from Frankfurt at 20.20 hrs
and - after a stopover in Bangkok - reach its destination
on the west coast of the peninsula of Malaysia at 21.05
hrs. Return flights will take off at 21.05 hrs, make a stopover
in Bangkok, and arrive in Frankfurt at 5.20 hrs.
Kuala Lumpur's progressive outlook is reflected in the
city's stunning, ultra-modern architecture. The Petronas
Towers dominate the skyline. At a height of 453 metres,
the 88-storey twin towers are currently the world's tallest
free-standing building. The Malaysian capital also has an
efficient and modern integrated transport system. The world's
leading airlines fly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport,
which went into operation in 1998. From the capital, rail
and road links provide rapid access to neighbouring cities
and other parts of the country. In addition, Kuala Lumpur
is linked to one of the country's largest seaports, Port
Klang.
For holidaymakers, Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia are always
worth a visit. The Malaysian Grand Prix is a special highlight
of the season for Formula 1 fans. Some 130,000 spectators
can watch the race live on the world championship circuit,
which at 16 metres across, is the world's widest, and experience
the thrill first hand. For nature-lovers, Malaysia's national
parks and wildlife reserves are a dream come true. With
more than 14,500 types of flowering plants and trees, 600
species of bird and 210 species of mammal, Malaysia's tropical
rainforest is the richest and most intact ecosystem in the
world.
Lufthansa served Kuala Lumpur until the end of the Nineties.
Flights were suspended on 31 August 2026 in the wake of
the Asia crisis.

American Airlines in cooperation with SN Brussels Airlines
to expand at Brussels with new service to New York JFK Airport
American Airlines in cooperation with codeshare partner
SN Brussels Airlines is to begin a new daily nonstop service
to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport from
Brussels. American, the world's largest airline already
provides daily nonstop service to Chicago O'Hare International
Airport from Brussels. Services to New York begin in May
2004.
With the new service American expands its relationship
with SN Brussels Airlines. Belgium's premier international
airline will place its own airline code on the new flight.
American and SN Brussels currently have a codesharing agreement
on the Chicago to Brussels flight and on connecting service
via Brussels to key business and leisure destinations throughout
Europe and Western Africa. Frequent flyers can earn mileage
credits and redeem award travel under American's AADVANTAGE
and SN Brussels' Privilege program whenever flying on services
operated by the other carrier.
"This additional transatlantic service from Brussels
underlines American's commitment to our European customers
and builds on our already successful partnership with SN
Brussels," said Craig Kreeger newly appointed Vice
President Europe & Asia for American Airlines. "Our
New York JFK service adds another important US gateway for
passengers originating in Belgium or joining American's
transatlantic flights from the many connecting services
offered by our partner, SN Brussels, across Europe and Africa."
Belgium has been part of the American Airlines system
since 1989 when the airline began serving Chicago. American's
codeshare agreement with SN Brussels was initiated in May
2003 and offers customers the opportunity to fly beyond
Brussels to important European destinations such as Milan,
Munich and Vienna as well as strategic destinations in Africa,
including Dakar and Kinshasa.
Conversely, SN Brussels customers are able to travel to
major metropolitan areas in the United States such as Denver,
Detroit, Houston and Minneapolis/St. Paul via Chicago. Customers
will also be able to connect to cities like San Diego, San
Francisco and San Jose, Calif. as well as Caribbean destinations
via New York.
"Thanks to this new codeshare agreement with American
Airlines, the world's largest airline, we offer our clients
not only a direct link to New York but also smooth travel
solutions to the entire US East Coast", said Executive
Chairman Rob Kuijpers of SN Brussels Airlines. "With
this new route we further connect the huge network of American
Airlines with our own dense European and African flight
schedule."
American's new daily service from New York will be flown
onboard a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with seating for 30 Business
Class and 182 Economy Class passengers. As with all flights
to Europe, Economy Class passengers will enjoy American's
More Room Throughout Economy seating that offers additional
legroom between seat rows.
